How many times have you set a New Year’s Resolution with great intention and enthusiasm to all but forget about it within the first couple of months? Dream Journaling can be an effective tool in ensuring we fulfil our goals for the New Year!
One of the New Year’s resolutions I like to do each year is to read a book a month. I have achieved this goal for the past 2 years and I plan to do it again. This year, I’ll also be implementing the practices explained in the book, ‘The 5am Club’ by Robin Sharma (I highly recommend this book to everyone!).
How to Overcome Goal Blocks
When we set ourselves goals and strive to achieve them, we are guaranteed to encounter blocks.
Since blocks are guaranteed, knowing how to combat them so you can keep moving forward toward your goals and actually achieve them, is absolutely vital.
1. identify the blocks
Identifying the blocks as they arise is the first step. Some blocks will be physical, mental, emotional or even spiritual. How do we identify goal blocks? We regularly review our goals.
As Leonie Dawson explains in her ‘4 Tips for Goal Setting Success‘ post, only 1% of people write their goals down AND regularly review them. Regularly reviewing their goals is what makes them among the highest achievers!
2. understand the blocks
The next step would be to understand the blocks that have come up. Why are they there? What triggered them? and what deep seeded issue are causing them to pop up?
This is where Dream Journaling comes in to help us achieve our goals, by revealing to us the root cause for the blocks.
Writing our dreams down in a Dream Journal and taking the time to unpack them will massively help in identifying and understanding any goal blocks that have come up, or are about to come up that are simmering under the surface.
Haven’t journaled your dreams before?
Check out this post on how to get started with Dream Journaling.
3. take action
The last step of course is to take action.
Has a dream revealed low self worth due to a past event where you were ignored and so now you can’t meet your business goals because you price your services too low or fear putting yourself out there?
Taking action on the root cause, in this example, working on your self worth will remove the goal blocks so you can take a few steps closer to achieving your goal!
Join me in the Book a Month Challenge! Since I go through different reading phases throughout the year, my goal is to simply read 12 books before the end of the year. But, if you’re keen to stick to one book a month, you can use this template that way as well.
I want to sincerely thank you for being here, and to wish you all a very Happy New Year, may this year be your best one yet!!!
